Strength in Obedience and Purpose

Strength in Obedience and Purpose

In our lives we face strong and powerful adversaries. Temptations toward materialism, sensuality, substance abuse, peer pressure to act, talk and dress like the other people can be powerful forces that we often feel powerless to resist. While we must always be the one who chooses to obey, we must recognize that our strength comes from purpose in life. When we choose to obey we must see ourselves as surrendering our will and trusting that what is best for our life. We must obey leave the consequences of our obedience to our success.

We often ask, “what if other people laugh at me?” Or, “what if I don’t fit in?” Or even, “how can I be happy without __________?” The real questions we should ask are, “how can I ever resist to quit if I keep giving in to it?” How important is it learned contentment in all situations? “Have I recognized how to be obedient?

Disobedience Leads to Defeat.

Many people wonder why they never grow stronger in their relationships, businesses, on their jobs in spite of the fact that they continually surrender to disobedience. Some think to themselves, “I’ll get my life straight and then I’ll be faithful.” Obedience was the first step. Imagine that a person didn’t know how to read. Recognizing this problem they said to themselves, “I’ll read more books and then I’ll learn how to read.” They will never accomplish the first task (reading more books), if they don’t first accomplish the second task (learning to read). Giving in disobedience weakens us for the life’s battles we face. We will never grow stronger to be able to face these battles if we don’t first obey. Obedience is the foundation of your strength and the key to your success.

Obedience Grants Us Strength for the Task at Hand.

We are not asked to understand why we need strength to obey certain things required of us. We are not asked to like these instructions or reasonably recognize the wisdom of obedience, but we are asked to obey.

When we are obedient we gain a measure of strength to face the next battle. Every small victory strengthens us to face the next. This is the way it is intended to work. The only reason it does work is because we stop obeying and then act as if we don’t have the strength.

Sometimes we may grow arrogant. We think our strength gained the victory or we simply forget our purpose and turn to disobedience. Our love of the world or ego may cause us to disobey. Whatever the reason, the problem remains simple, we must obey.

Take the simple steps of obedience and your strength increased along the way.

All Depends On Your Perspective

A professor stood before her Philosophy 101 class and had some items in front of her. When the class began, wordlessly, she picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. She then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was. So the professor picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. She shook the jar lightly. The pebbles, of course, rolled into the open areas between the golf balls. She then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was. The professor then picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar.  Of course, the sand filled up everything else. She then asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with a unanimous – yes.

The professor then produced two cans of liquid chocolate from under the table and proceeded to pour the entire contents into the jar effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed. “Now,” said the professor, as the laughter subsided, “I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life. The golf balls are the important things – – your family, your spouse, your health, your children, your friends, your favorite passions – – things that if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full. “The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house, your car.”

“The sand is everything else – – the small stuff.” “If you put the sand into the jar first,” she continued, “there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for your life.81c86f2727926d650de5fa5c77cfe1b8Quotes-On-Change-10untitled (45)

If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff, you will never have room for the things that are important to you. Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. “Take care of the golf balls first the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand.”

One student raised her hand and inquired what the chocolate represented. The professor smiled. “I’m glad you asked. It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem, there’s always room for chocolate!”

It’s Warrior Wednesday: 7 Ways of Standing TALL, FIRM, & STILL in the Midst of a Raging Storm

What do you do when all hell breaks loose in your home, at your place of work and you look around and help seems to elude you?
When raging storm of life ceases to stop                                                                 Genius.com

How do you overcome all the confusion, frustration, and the overwhelming sense of disconnection with a relationship, a work place, your boss… whoever you may slide into this question?

Here are steps (which I call my wisdom nugget) to help you move through your most difficult season:

(1). Understand that this season is TEMPORARY;
(2). Be Still… Be Still… Be Still…;
(3). Truthfully assess your circumstances and make sure that you have not brought this particular situation on, due to your action or inaction;
(3b). If you have, then repent and chart a new course for yourself without regrets;
(4). If not, begin to thank the heavenly father because your storm is about to shift into a victory dance;
(5). No one lives alone….We are created to live life with others. As such, figure out who your confidant is and share this agonizing situation with him or her;
(6). In all that you do, PUT GOD FIRST!
(7). Understand that your Creator has your back no matter what!
(8). PRAY! PRAY! PRAY! And meditate on God’s Words. The answers you are seeking are embedded in his words.

Recently, one of my southern warrior sister-tribe, sister, Dawn D. Totty who is an award winning designer/stager was on her way to yet another interesting assignment. She loves the path to the family’s house that she took the picture to share just the serenity surrounding her as she drive towards the house.

I was instantly captivated by the picture and immediately asked if I had permission to use it. That same day, another southern warrior sister-tribe sister, Marlas Triplett-Sells, “Our Teacher-Preacher sister” and her husband Robert Sells were on their way to Indiana for July 4th (independence day) celebration here in the United States. Well, she too sent me a picture. This time it was a picture of them pushing through the storms to get to their destination.

****J.K. Coltrain****

K. Coltrain was born in Columbus, Ohio. He spent his early childhood days between there and West Virginia where his parents operated a small Mom & Pop grocery store. His Dad also was an excellent auto mechanic and in fact owned a number of repair shops over the years and was a weekend stock car racer. That’s one reason why J. K. is a Nascar fanatic to this day:) J.K. grew up surrounded by music & musicians. His cousin, Buddy Starcher was a professional recording artist on Columbia Records and was a regular performer on the then popular Midwestern & Louisiana Hayrides.

He also introduced the late Keith Whitley who first appeared on Buddys weekly radio show in Charleston, West Virginia when he was 8 years old. J. K. made his own first appearance on radio at age 12 and first TV appearance at age 14. His Uncle & Grandpa performed together at churches throughout the South. That’s where J. K. made his first appearance singing in church at the ripe old age of 11. His first professional job was at age 14 when he began singing with The Pleasant Hill Quartet. A well-known gospel group at the time. Of course in his teens he had to try his hand in high school dance bands like Fire n’ Ice and The Four Aces but by age 20 he had returned to his first love country music. At that time J. K. helped form a 7 piece country rock group called ‘The Southern Express’.

They garnered a great deal of regional success and opened for many popular groups at that time such as Pure Prairie League, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Poco & The Marshall Tucker Band. In 1983 he left The Southern Express to pursue a solo career as his heart was with more traditional country music. He appeared to be taking the music business by storm as he was often the featured artist on Ernest Tubbs Midnight Jamboree and many popular Nashville nightclubs and was dubbed The Star of Tomorrow by Country Music News. He first cracked the country music charts in 1987 with a self-penned song, West Virginia You’re Still My Home on the Studio 7 label.

Since then he had enjoyed a number of chart successes including being shown in the Top 40 in Europe for 41 straight weeks. He also has made many appearances on radio & TV including The Nashville Showcase, The Midnight Jamboree, Nashville On Stage, The Jerry Lewis Telethon & Stars of Tomorrow Show.

J.K. has toured worldwide and worked with some of the greatest names in country music including Jerry Reed, Loretta Lynn, The Bellamy Brothers, Conway Twitty, Buck Owens, George Jones, Tammy Wynette & Jerry Lee Lewis to name just a few.

In addition to still recording and performing on his own J. K. is now helping the new up & coming young artists serving as the President of Colt Records Nashville, Chairman of The Traditional Country Opry and hosting The Country Star Showcases.

He was recently awarded The Texas CMA Entertainer and Best Country Album of The Year awards. J. K. Coltrain is a member of:

Traditional Country Music Hall of Fame

Country Music Association

Academy of Country Music

Country Legends Association

Americana Music Association

Roots Music Association
